Crusader Mill.

Crusader Mill is an apartment complex in the heart of Manchester City Centre.

The building, a Grade-II listed mill, is over 180 years old and is blessed with beautiful structural details such as a thick sturdy wall, high ceilings and huge windows that engulf the room with natural light – the perfect recipe for an apartment renovation!

Crusader Mill is a collection of 1 and 2 bedroom apartments, and due to its age and nature of the building, every apartment is unique and has its own quirky style and distinctive features. The style of the apartments is a contemporary design combined with Mancunium heritage.

Structures Group were awarded several contracts on the Crusader Mill project. Firstly, we completed the preliminary abrasive cleaning package.This involved microstripping the existing walls using blasting media to remove surface contaminants and paint from existing walls, cast iron columns, timber soffits and the like to refurbish the internal envelope of the entire mill, giving it a renewed industrial aesthetic.

Once the abrasive cleaning package was completed, we proceeded to carry out a large volume masonry repair contract, both externally and internally. This included raking out/repointing masonry mortar joints in new lime mortar, window masonry repairs, localised steel and padstone installations, structural remedial work like installing helical ties to remedy existing building movement cracking as well as providing all the temporary propping solutions for the aforementioned work items.

These high-volume contracts spanned a duration of years and showcased our versatility as subcontractors.
