Flyde Coast.

The work at Granny’s Bay (officially named Stanner Bank) was part of a £22m coastal protection project along the Fylde coast. Interestingly, the nickname ‘Granny’s Bay’ derived from Lady Clifton who brought her grandchildren to the bay to visit, many years ago.

The sea defence walls required repair as the existing coastal defenses were timeworn and had been failing. The coast defenses (built in the 1890s) had been undergoing emergency repairs every year to prevent a major breach. The works were commissioned to ensure that the seaside resort in Fylde would be fit for the next century.

Operatives at Structures carried out concrete repairs to the newly installed sea wall defenses, ensuring they were free from cracks and damage. Further down the coastline, de-vegetation works and was carried out to the part of the costal defense that wasn’t replaced, whilst the stone wall was structurally reinstated.

The project provided new coast protection as well as an upgraded promenade, ensuring that the new foreshore remained an aesthetically pleasing recreational facility whilst providing necessary shoreline protection.
