Media City.

In 2011, the first phase of Media City, Salford Quays, was complete. Docked on the banks of the Manchester Ship Canal, this vibrant, sustainable destination to work, live and play now thrives as an international hub for technology, innovation, and creativity.
BBC, ITV, Ericsson, dock10 and Kellogg’s are amongst some of the larger businesses whom relocated to Media City, and are complemented by more than 250 smaller media and digital businesses.

Both hard and soft landscaping works were carried out to the project in its first phase by English Landscapes LTD, who subcontracted the hard landscaping works to Structures Group.

Structures Group operatives were programmed to spend 25 weeks laying natural stone paving to a vast area, including steps,terraces and a footbridge over the canal, cladding walls, and installing granite planters. 

The granite imports arrived on site on a just-in-time basis, making it vital to strictly adhere to the program of works. In total, around three quarters of a million pieces of granite arrived in Liverpool where they were transshipped onto barges for their onward journey along the Manchester Ship Canal. Not only did this provide a low environmental and traffic impact delivery solution, it provided a fitting mode of transport for the development on land formerly owned by the Canal Company formed in 1885 – a previous development that transformed the economic prosperity of Manchester which Media City aimed to repeat.
